Poppell Farms is owned and operated by Genell and Tanya Poppell in Odum, Georgia.
We purchased our farm in 1988, and it originally was a "summer hobby"
as we both had full time jobs. In the summer of 1997 we opened up as a
full-time operational farm. Our business consists of growing and selling
fresh produce, in the Spring and Summer, Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze
Field Trips in the Fall, and Frasier Fir Christmas Trees during November
and December. We grow approximately 400 acres of produce and have other
farmers who grow for us. Even though we "get a little help" from others,
growing and selling fresh produce is a part of our family heritage.
Genell has 11 brothers & sisters and everyone helped with the farm chores
growing up, "it's in my blood, I've farmed all of my life." We pride ourselves
in our "fresh shelled butterbeans and peas, shelled every day while you watch,
we try to take most of the work out of it for you." We specialize in Green
and Speckled Butterbeans, Pink-Eye, Purple Hull Crowder, White-Acre, Dixie Lee,
Zipper Cream, Black-Eye, and Butterpeas. We supply butterbeans and peas to
businesses in South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi,
and Florida. We also have squash, cucumbers, okra, tomatoes, potatoes, watermelons,
cantaloupe, corn, and delicious jams and jellies.
